Sermon: Do Good at All Times?

Luke 6:6-11

  • Man-made religion perverts God’s grace by imposing rules to live by for the purpose of earning a prideful position as our own personal self-righteous god.

  • Man-made religion is an opium of sinful people looking for relief through prideful religious works that help them to feel good about themselves.

  • Religious pride numbs us from the pain of others and puts the focus on us as worthy “do gooders.” This is a delusion.

  • 2 Questions:

    • Is the burden I am carrying from God or man?

    • Is the work of my life help set others free from sin or make them captive to sin?

  • Christ’s sacrificial love lived out through me allows others to experience freedom and healing.

"For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them." Eph. 2:10

SERMON Based Questions

Theme: Bring Healing and Hope

Devotional Questions

Read Isaiah 1:11-17

  • God speaks through the prophet Isaiah to tell his people that the religious acts they do are worthless, because they do not reflect justice, setting free the oppressed and helping those in need (v.17).

  • Examine your life and ask yourself, “What in my life makes things difficult on others and keeps them from justice, healing and being restored?”

Read Isaiah 58:6-14

  • God explains what his purpose is for His people and how we can live a good life for ourselves and others.

  • What do you need to change in your life to bring about this kind of hope, healing and justice in others lives?

  • Sometimes we need a vacation from our vacation. How can you replace some of your personal entertainment by helping others in need in Jesus name?

  • Make a concrete plan and also look for people to show God’s love in a practical way. Tell them why.
