Central Passage
Colossians 2:6- 7
Colossians Series Sermon #8

Group Question(s)

  • Discuss what your view of what "Jesus is my Lord" meant when you first put faith in Him for the forgiveness of your sins. If you have not confessed Jesus as your Lord, discuss what you think this means up to this point in your life.

Into the Bible Questions

  • Jesus is King: READ Luke 23:2- 3 In John 6:15 the people were trying to make Jesus their king who would lead them against their Roman occupiers. Jesus did not allow them to make him king, because the people had the wrong view of what type of king Jesus would be. People thought they could make Jesus king and control Him. Yet, Jesus' death & resurrection were vastly different than what was expected. How are you like the people who were trying to control Jesus rule & reign?
  • Jesus is God: READ Romans 10:9 & 13 . Paul's call to faith in Jesus as Lord in Romans 10 was no less a confession of Jesus as God (YHWH). List 5 stories from the Old Testament where God acted and next to each story write down what His actions said about His character. How have you trusted Jesus in these ways as God in your life?
  • Jesus is Savior: READ Matthew 1:21 What does Jesus name mean? Through turning from obedience to sin and turning to Jesus as your Lord you are saved- see Romans 10:9- 11. Is Jesus your Lord? If not re-read the passage and begin trusting Him as Lord today. How does Jesus as your Savior change your attitude toward God and others?

Application Questions

  • READ Colossians 2:6 Reflect on how you have recieved Jesus as your LORD (God, King and Savior) and write down then share with the group as you feel led how you can WALK (live out) Jesus as your Lord in the every day stuff of life (decision making, attitude etc.) Medidate on this throughout the week and share what you are thinking through with your Growth Group.
  • Ask someone (in your group) to hold you accountable to 1 thing you answered from the previous question.
