Other notes:

DEVOTIONAL: personal and group

Theme: Seek the Lord First

Read: 1 Samuel 14 and 2 Cor. 10:3-4

  • In vv.1-23, what does Jonathan believe he needs to win the battle?

  • What do you need to seek first before entering into life’s battles?

  • Why do you think Jonathan’s armor bearer was with him heart & soul?

  • How does this help us decide who we should follow into battle, whether in friendship or marriage?

  • In vv. 24-46, Saul makes a vow on his own without consulting the Lord that results in almost killing his son and leading the people into sin.

  • What has the Lord provided believers to discern which battles to fight and how to engage in Godly battles?

  • In v.36 Saul almost leads Israel into destruction, but the priest’s wisdom in seeking God first saved Israel. What lessons can we learn here?

In v. 52 Saul found quick but short success by attaching to himself every strong and valiant man. What was Saul missing?
