Subject
Acts Series
Description

DEVOTIONAL: personal and group

Theme: Greater Faith

Background: Read 1 Kings 19:1-18

The 850 false prophets of Baal and Asherah that used to eat at Jezebel’s table, 1Kings 18:19, have been killed. Now she is ready to ready to kill Elijah.

  • Vv.1-3 In 1 Kings 17-18 God provided for Elijah during the famine. He used him to bring life to a dead boy. Elijah trusted God to light a wet fire, and destroy the false prophets. Why is he scared of Jezebel? Why is Jezebel not the issue?

  • What lesson should we remind ourselves of when we are overwhelmed with despair?

  • Vv.4-8 Even when Elijah’s faith began to weaken, what was God’s response? When your faith is weak, where should you look for strength?

  • Vv.9-18 In vv.9-10, what was Elijah’s argument for his fear and lack of faith? Why is his real problem?

  • God showed himself powerful in 1 Kings 1, but how and why does God speak differently to Elijah? What does this say about God?

  • How did God show Elijah that there was a hopeful future in vv.15-18?

  • What reasons do you have to trust God when all your senses say otherwise? What does this say about God?
