Focus Point: The Bible
Read Deuteronomy 6:4-9 Jews named this passage after its first word “Shema,” which in v.4 is often translated as “hear” or “listen.” The word means not to listen passively but to listen in a way that we focus on God and His commands so that we obey Him. So “shema” ultimately means to listen so that you obey God.
