Read Joshua 1:1-18

  • What is God promising to give Joshua and the people of Israel?

  • What does God command Joshua to do to obtain this gift of the Promised Land?

  • What encouragement does God give Joshua?

  • What precautions was Joshua to take to ensure success against Israel’s enemies? (vv.7-9)

  • Vv.12-15 Some tribes would possess the land on the eastern side. What were they required to do first and why?

  • Vv.16-18 How did the people encourage their leader and give him support?

  • What benefits would Israel experience by supporting their spiritual leader?

  • According to Judges 21:25, how do you think Israel did without faithful spiritual leaders?

  • What examples do you see to follow in this passage? 

  • What practices should you avoid?

  • According is Paul’s charge to Timothy and example in 2nd Timothy 4:1-8 similar to what you read in Joshua 1:1-18?
