DEVOTIONAL: personal and small groups

Focus Point: Missions

Read Matthew 28:16-20

  • Jesus called 12 disciples to trust Him and be trustworthy to His mission. Why is there only 11?

  • Read v.17 and then Luke 16:19-31. For some, even proof of the resurrection will not be enough to trust and follow Jesus. Why?

  • V.18 Jesus has all authority over creation. How does the way He uses His authority contrast to the way people use great power?

  • V.19-20 The primary task is to “make disciples.”

  • Why does Jesus call His followers to “go” to people and not wait for them to come to them? (Jn.3:16)

  • Baptize literally means to immerse a thing. What other immersion did Jesus undergo in Jerusalem (Luke 12:50), and how does our water immersion reflect Jesus’ immersion in Jerusalem?

  • How does Jesus call us to live out this immersion in His saving work,

  • Are we to teach people just information about Jesus and the Bible or does Jesus point to something more in Matthew 28:20?
