Theme: Discovering Joy in Suffering

Read Luke 7:36-50

  1. Is there something here difficult to understand in this story?

  2. What does this story say:

    1. about the sinful woman?

    2. about Simon, the Jewish religious scholar?

    3. about the other guests?

  3. What do you learn about Jesus from this?

  4. Who do you identify with in this story? Why?

  5. What specifically has Jesus forgiven you for that has caused you to be deeply thankful just like this sinful woman?

  6. How can you share this grace with others who need it in such a way that brings them to want to come to Jesus?

  7. How are you like the Pharisees (religious leaders) in seeing yourself as “good” and looking down on others sinners? How can you change this?

  8. Do you think, that you can share this story with someone this week, the main idea of the story?

  9. What example(s) can we follow from today’s text?

  10. SHARE this story with 1 person this week and show them grace as you share what you’ve learned?

Luke 6:21b- 23

NOTES: don’t just take notes, make a plan to act

V. 21b Weeping turns to Laughter

I will share the suffering of others, knowing that Jesus has joy for those who follow His pattern.

Vv. 22-23 Joy in the Pain and Shame

Jump for joy when you experience shame for the Name of Jesus.


  1. I will ask my neighbor to how I can pray for them. *Seek to pray for them right there and then.

I will offer to care/ help my neighbor with a need they have.
